Auto Mode

Auto mode lets Whisper run on its own. It monitors your account for unread messages, scores each conversation by opportunity, and sends replies automatically. No approval needed. No typing required.

This is for when you trust Whisper's judgment and want it to handle everything while you step away.

Starting Auto Mode

Exit Whisper if you're in interactive mode (/quit), then run:

bash
whisper --auto

You'll see a banner like this:

whisper v0.5.0 [AUTO MODE]

Account: myaccount | @sunshinevibes
Polling every 60s | Min delay: 10s
Scoring: active (142 vectors)

Ctrl+C to stop.

What Happens

Whisper enters a loop:

The auto mode polling cycle. Runs continuously until you stop it.

  1. It checks for unread messages
  2. Each unread conversation gets scored by conversion opportunity
  3. Conversations are processed in order, highest score first
  4. For each one, the AI reads the conversation, loads the subscriber's profile and history, and sends a response
  5. It waits, then checks again

You'll see output as it works:

[14:32:01] Checking for unread messages...
3 unread conversation(s) found.
Processing @alice (12345) [87% ↑, ENGAGE]
✓ Handled @alice
Processing @bob (67890) [62% →, NURTURE]
✓ Handled @bob
Processing @charlie (11111) [34% ↓, MONITOR]
✓ Handled @charlie
[14:33:01] Checking for unread messages...
No unread messages.

Safety Features

Auto mode has multiple safety layers built in:

  • Rate limiting: Whisper won't send more than one message per subscriber within 30 seconds. This prevents accidental spam.
  • Content filtering: All outgoing messages are checked for restricted content before sending.
  • Compliance checks: Messages are automatically filtered for platform rule compliance.
  • Per-subscriber sessions: Each subscriber gets isolated AI context. Conversations don't cross-contaminate.

When to Use Auto Mode

Auto mode works best when:

  • You've already used /review mode enough to trust Whisper's drafts
  • Your persona and directives are dialed in
  • You want hands-free operation overnight or during busy hours
  • You're managing multiple accounts and can't be in all of them at once

Start with /review first

Don't jump straight to auto mode. Spend time in /review mode first so Whisper learns your style and you can see how it drafts. Once you're happy with the quality, auto mode is safe to run unattended. See Best Practices for the recommended workflow.

Stopping Auto Mode

Press Ctrl+C (hold Control and press C). Whisper will finish what it's doing, save any pending data, and shut down cleanly.

Flushing analytics...

Auto mode runs indefinitely until you stop it. If you're running it on a dedicated machine, it will just keep going.
