Directives
Directives are standing instructions that Whisper follows in every conversation. Think of them as sticky notes for your AI. If you want to push a specific content set, run a promotion, or set a rule that applies across the board, directives are how you do it.
Adding a Directive
At the > prompt, type /note followed by your instruction:
/note Push the Beach Day photoset to anyone who likes outdoor contentWhisper confirms it:
✓ Directive saved: Push the Beach Day photoset to anyone who likes outdoor contentFrom now on, the AI will follow this instruction in every conversation where it applies.
Adding with an Expiry Date
For time-limited promotions, add --expires with a date:
/note --expires 2026-02-28 Valentine's sale is live, 20% off all bundlesWhen the date passes, the directive automatically stops applying. No need to remember to remove it.
Viewing Your Directives
Type /notes to see everything that's active:
Active directives:
1. [operator] Push the Beach Day photoset to anyone who likes outdoor content
2. [operator] Valentine's sale is live, 20% off all bundles (expires: Feb 28)
3. [agent] Subscribers respond better to questions than direct pitches on this accountEach directive shows its source in brackets:
- [operator] means you created it
- [agent] means the AI created it on its own (more on this below)
Removing a Directive
Remove a specific directive by number:
/note remove 3Or clear everything:
/note clearAI-Created Directives
This is one of Whisper's more powerful features. As the AI has conversations across your account, it spots patterns and creates its own directives. For example, it might notice that questions get better engagement than direct pitches, or that a certain content category performs well on weekends.
These show up tagged as [agent] in your /notes list. You're always in control. If you see an AI-created directive you disagree with, just remove it:
/note remove 3Check your directives regularly
Review your /notes every few days. Remove anything outdated, check that AI-created directives make sense, and add new ones for current promotions or strategies. Good directive hygiene keeps Whisper focused on what matters right now.
Natural Language Directives
You don't have to use the /note command. You can also tell the AI directly:
from now on, always mention the limited-time discount when someone asks about pricingWhisper will understand this is a standing instruction and save it as a directive automatically.
How Directives Work
Three ways directives get created, all feeding into the same system.
When Whisper starts a conversation with any subscriber, it loads all active directives and follows them alongside the subscriber's individual context and profile. Directives are account-wide, so they apply everywhere.
Tips for Good Directives
- Keep them short and specific. "Push Beach Day set to outdoor fans" is better than a whole paragraph.
- Use expiry dates for promotions so you don't forget to clean them up.
- Don't create conflicting directives (like "always discount" and "never discount").
- Let the AI create its own and review them. Sometimes it spots things you wouldn't have noticed.
